About
Hi, this is the personal website of Alexandre Coster.
(Very) Brief History
I was born in São Paulo but raised in Porto Alegre. My first contact with programming was about the age of 6 years, when dad gave me an MSX and its programming manuals. In 2003 I started studying Computer Science at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.
In 2006 I moved to Kaiserslautern for a year, to study at TU Kaiserslautern, and work at their Databases Group. In 2007, after I came back home, I joined Southlogic Studios, initially working with Network Programming for PC, Unix and Xbox 360.
In the beginning of 2009 the company was acquired by Ubisoft Entertainment, where I held the position of Gameplay Programmer until May 2010. During this time, I’ve worked as gameplay and engine programmer on Wii and Nintendo DS titles, and as backend programmer for social gaming (e.g., Facebook games).
On May 2010 I was hired by Aeroeletrônica (a subsidiary of Elbit Systems) as a Software Engineer. I’ll be relocated to Haifa for a while for training reasons.
Released titles
I have worked on two released titles:
- Deer Hunter Tournament (Southlogic Studios): I’ve worked developing the multiplayer infrastructure for the PC version, and integration with Xbox LIVE on the Xbox 360 version (which was not released). I’ve also worked on porting other parts of the game to the Xbox 360.
- Imagine Party Planner (Ubisoft Entertainment): During this project for the DS, I’ve taken the role of generalist programming, working with the game engine, it’s networking capabilities and gameplay programming.
Open Source Projects
Unfortunately I haven’t took part in many open source projects, but I believe it’s worth noting two academic projects of mine:
- xXML suite – an error injection suite (developed while I worked at AGDBIS/TU Kaiserslautern)
- Elliptic Curve Cryptography for Python S60 (developed for my Bachelor Thesis)
